Ronald
E. Myrick
Partner
Ron Myrick has more than thirty
five years of experience in the intellectual
property field, serving as in-house counsel,
private practitioner, consultant, and IP
bar leader. He focuses his practice on counseling,
negotiations, IP asset management and strategy,
IP litigation and litigation management
and dispute resolution, quality methodology
applied to legal services, transactions
and licensing, and IP issues relating to
international relations.
While in private practice,
Mr. Myrick has served as advisor to many
Fortune 500 companies and as "virtual"
chief IP counsel or as senior IP advisor
to smaller companies in the U.S. and abroad.
He has published a multi-volume treatise
and many papers on international litigation,
and is a frequent speaker at meetings and
seminars on a wide range of IP legal topics.
Highlights
- Served as lead defense
counsel in a recent litigation in the
EDTX, concluded by stipulation of non
infringement after Markman hearing.
- Drove successful IP dispute
resolution for domestic plaintiff, employing
District Court and ITC action strategies.
- Negotiated multiple settlements
of IP Disputes ranging in value to many
10's of millions of dollars for both plaintiffs
and defendants.
- Expert witness in many
cases on wilful infringement and licensing
issues.
- Served as chief intellectual
property counsel for General Electric,
successfully leading the effort to restore
GE to its traditional IP leadership role,
as demonstrated by its return in 2002
to the top ten list for U.S. patents issued.
- Rebuilt GE's IP organization
and led the development and full implementation
of extensive 6 Sigma Quality programs
addressing all aspects of IP practice,
thereby improving IP processes significantly
and diminishing exposure to adverse IP
claims materially.
- Served as the chief intellectual
property counsel for Digital Equipment,
and as general counsel for corporations
as diverse as Mostek (a maker of dynamic
random access memories and microprocessors)
and Otis Elevator NAO.
- President of the AIPPI,
an international association of more than
8000 IP professionals, driving collaborative
major effort for new treaty on IP Professional
privilege.
- Served as an advisor to
the European Law Research Center of the
Harvard Law School.
- Served as adjunct professor
of international business transactions
at Suffolk University Law School and the
University of Connecticut Law School.
- Served as a member of
the board of directors or as a trustee
for many organizations, including the
Munich Intellectual Property Law Center,
National Patent Board, Fairfield Resources
International, the Boston Ballet, Boston
Lyric Opera, Foundation for a Creative
America, and the Dallas Council of World
Affairs.
- Led successful effort
to revise antitrust laws in US for cooperative
R&D ventures
